Road trip, baby!

For this session, I got to road trip with my wonderful friend Gwen.  We drove to the hoppin’ metropolis of Lincoln, NE to photograph Cole, the new baby of Rhonda and Colby, Gwen’s sister and brother-in-law.  Cole was so good for us and didn’t mind too much that we were interrupting his sleep. :D

Congratulations Rhonda and Colby, Cole is beautiful.  I hope you enjoy your sneak peek.

Perfect 10

Last year I photographed this little guy, for his baptismal pictures.   Roque was addition number nine to my friend Bridget’s family.

Bridget was recently blessed with addition number ten.  Let me introduce you to Dahlia.  She was born May 24th at 10:45am.  She weighed 6.3lbs.  She is such a beautiful baby and she was so good for me.  Thank you very much Bridget.  Congratulations to you and Brad and your family.  Dahlia is a perfect 10!

I hope you enjoy your sneak peek.

Madl baby

Isabella was a model baby :) She was so sleepy, her mother and I were having so much trying out so many different poses with her.

Thank you Sarah and Jeremy so much.  Congratulations!  Isabella makes a wonderful addition to your Madl family.  I hope you enjoy your sneak peek.

Princes Leah

With 3 boys (make that 4 boys :) the Star Wars phenomenon in my house was probably inevitable.  My kids have been fans of Star Wars for going on about 3 years.  Regardless of whether or not your a Star Wars fan, I’m sure just about everyone  knows who Princes Leah is (thanks to that gold outfit she wore chained to Jabba the Hut.)  So, when I began writing this post in my head, I already knew my title had to be, Pricess Leah.

I met Kristen on “Flickr” a year or two ago.  She has a wonderful food blog at dineanddish.net.  (and she is running a contest right now, so please visit her blog and vote for her.  You could win something too!)  I was thrilled when Kristen took me up on my offer to photograph her newborn baby.  Born May 11th at 7:45pm weighing 8lbs 12oz and 20 inches long.  (Kristen has a beautiful slideshow on her blog as well).

So, without further ado as they say, please welcome Leah Katherine.  Congratulations Kristen and Nick and family.  What a wonderful addtion Leah makes to your beautiful family.

Blessing from above

I think pretty much any mom would agree that any baby is a special blessing from above.  But sometimes those blessings are extra special.

Stephanie and her husband Skip have two adorable children, Emerald (love her name) and Calvin (yeah, kinda like that one too ;D  I met Stephanie last spring at our annual Wea Golf Tournament.  They had recently moved to Kansas from Texas.  She shared with me that she and her husband had adopted Emerald and Calvin while living in Texas.

I would see Stephanie here and there occasionally, but our paths didn’t cross much.  Later this fall I got to catch up with her at a girls night out.  Dressed in maternity clothes, I found out Stephanie was unexpectedly expecting.  How exciting!  I was so happy for her.  She was due at the end of February.

Everyone knows babies have their own schedule and plan.  Stephanie’s son Zach just couldn’t wait to meet his mom and dad and new sister and brother.  He arrived 8 weeks early at 31 weeks.  Not due until February, Zachary arrived on December 27th.  Going through the posts on Stephanie’s blog, found here, is no less than heart wrenching.  Seeing just how small and fragile this teeny tiny baby is.  Hooked up to tubes and machines.  Giving birth is such a joyous miracle.  But to have to go through all that.  My heart goes out to not only Stephanie and Skip, but any parent who was to experience this.

Zachary came home on February 7th.  Between the time he was born and his home coming, Stephanie had such a exhausting schedule.  She had two babies at home that needed her, but a newborn in the hospital that she had to feed to on a schedule.  Stephanie goes into great detail on her blog, but to give you a brief description, it went something like this:

    * 41 hours in the car traveling back and forth to the hospital–time spent w/o any of my children in most circumstances.

    * Over 5 hours of time spent solely scrubbing in and/or washing hands–you know, got to make those hands bleed :)

    * 70 + hours pumping, time usually devoted to my youngest, but usually w/o him anywhere near me

    * 25 + hours of preparing/cleaning pump parts/pumps before and after use both at home and at the hospital

    * over 13 hours of traveling from the car to Zach’s room and back again (the parking lot is always packed and he is on the 4th floor, elevators are awful!)

    * guessing at least 5 hours time devoted to insurance issues dealing with this experience, and surely more to come

To say that Stephanie was tired is more than just an understatement! I don’t know how you did it Stephanie. My hat goes off to you.  During all this, Stephanie seemed to remain so positive and kept up with posting to her blog. If you have a moment, stop by and visit Stephanie’s blog.  This girl deserves some kind of Mother of the year award, in my eyes.

And finally, here he is.  Meet Zach, weighing in at around 6 pounds at at little over 4 weeks old.  I can’t fathom it.  My babies all came out tipping the scale at at least 8 pounds or more.  Congratulations Stephanie, Skip, Emerald and Calvin.  We are so happy for you.

Love Triangle

This weekend I had the privilege to photograph another photographer, her husband and her beautiful baby girl.  Heather and I met almost three years ago in Newton, KS at the Kansas Professional Photographers school.  She has become a very dear friend since then.  She has also been great at encouraging me along my photographic journey.

We had such a great time during the session.   Heather and Jon are so great together and their love for each other and their daughter made photographing them so easy.  I was so flattered that Heather asked me to do their session.  Thank you Heather.  I hope you enjoy your sneak peek.

Isn’t she Lovely!

I’ve been blessed twice this year to take photos to celebrate birthdays. I photographed this little bundle of sweetness for his first birthday and this past weekend I had the opportunity to photograph this little doll for her two year pictures. When editing her photos, Stevie Wonders song, “Isn’t she lovely” kept playing in my head (I’m showing my age that I even know that song :)

Thank you Lauren and Eric. Hope you enjoy your sneak peek.

Number Nine

If you Google number nine, it’s amazing all that you’ll find. First, there are “sayings”

“On cloud nine”

“The whole nine yards”

“A stitch in time saves nine”

“Cats have nine lives”

Then, there’s all the intellectual stuff about nine and it’s mathematical magic.

There is a Beatles tribute band called Number Nine and their is a whole page showcasing John Lennon and role number nine played in his life and music. Pretty interesting.

So, where am I going with all this. I got to photograph a number nine. Child number nine. This is my friend Bridget’s baby, Roque. He’s number nine in line :)

Bridget has had all of her children photographed for their baptismal photos. I was honored when she asked me to do it, but, nervous, since I really have no studio equipment or lights. For this reason, I was hesitant to put Roque’s picture on my website, since I’m not set up for studio photography, but, wanted Roque to have some limelight. Isn’t he adorable. Thank you Bridget.

I

First Sneak Peek

It has taken alot of sweat and tears to get to this point.  I would bore you with all the details, but, if you’re here at all, it’s probably to see pictures and not listen to me whine about how hard technology is.  So, let’s get to the pictures.

I had the pleasure of photographing my friend Dana’s youngest son.  He just turned one in July and Dana wanted to capture him enjoying one of his many birthday cakes (he had 3).  Thank you Dana for the honor.  I hope you enjoy your sneak peek.
